  Mary Naomi SLAUNWHITE, daughter of William Fuller SLAUNWHITE and Mary Alice BAKER is the source of the following story. Mary Alice BAKER was born in Blue Rocks, Lunenburg, NS and was placed in an orphanage there. One version of the story has her adopted by Stephen SLAUNWHITE, but Mary Alice's name in her children's records is always BAKER so it is more likely that she was “taken in”. Another version has her born with an unknown surname but adopted by a BAKER family. Her 1971 obit states that she was the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth SLAUNWHITE and was born in Blue Rocks. Whatever the true story, it seem clear that Mary Alice BAKER is the Mary shown as the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth in the 1891 Census, and that she was born in Blue Rocks. I believe it is probably true that her parents were named BAKER. [Bob H]
