Notes - There is no proof that Moses Horton was the father of Benjamin. The evidence linking the two consists of the following. First, Moses Horton is known to have fought in the Revolutionary War In MA and from the Tax Rolls we know he settled in Sandisfield in the 1780's. Second, from the 1790 Census, we know he had a family. Third we know that Benjamin was the name of Moses' father. Fourth, Polly Whelpley, the future wife of Benjamin, was born and raised in Stockbridge, a town near Sandisfield, and in that era, one usually married a local girl. Finally, the Horton family is well-documented and there are few other, if any, known candidates for the father of Benjamin. Thus he is placed here as the son of Moses.
From the 1800 through 1830 Censuses of NY, Benjamin and Mary are known to have had at least 10 children. However, only four have been identified.
