Notes - On 20 Mar 1894 in Moncton, NB, an Ellen SLAUENWHITE, b. NS, d/o James & Martha SLAUENWHITE, marries a Stephen SHEA, and they appear in the 1901 Census of Halifax City where her DOB is given as 1961. There is no known birth record for an Ellen SLAUENWHITE, d/o James & Martha.
The is also only one known couple named James & Martha SLAUENWHITE at any time from 1752 to present, let alone a James and Martha of the right vintage; they are James William SLAUENWHITE 1834, and his wife, Martha STONE. Also, in the 1881 Census, a daughter named Ellener, age 22 appears in this family. I had preciously thought that this was simply an error and it was really brother George Nelson SLAUENWHITE, and that may well be true. But a daughter named Ellen/Eleanor in this family is the only explanation which fits the facts known at present.
Finally, the only Stephe SHEA in the 1881 Census of NS just happens to be born Upper Prospect, which fits the geography just short of perfectly. [Bob H]
