Notes - Peter Welcker (Welcker in Army records) was a member of the Berdan Sharpshooters 1st USSS, Co. A in the Union Army. He was shot through the lung after the Battle of Manassas Gap on July 23, 1863 in the US Civil War while the Berdan were waiting for the Irish Brigade to augment them.
War Record and Pension Office record shows he was taken prisoner 6/30/1862 and released 8/06/1862. Was captured at James River and paroled at Aikens Landing, VA. His occupation is given as painter. Described as 5 foot 5 inches, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair.
