[6] Notes - The 1884 marriage register entry is for a Catherine E. STEVENS, age 18, born Terence Bay, d/o William and Julia. If accurate, this information would place her birth about 1865, at which time there were no known STEVENS families living in Terence Bay. I believe that the only William and Julia living there at that time were William and Julia Innes, so it would seem that she belonged to them. It is possible that she is a previously unknown daughter Catherine. However, her age is identical to that of a known daughter--Charlotte Emily, and “Catherine's” middle initial is E. So it seems likely that Catherine STEVENS and Charlotte Innes are the same person.
As to the name STEVENS, there are three possibilities. The first is that she had previously married a STEVENS; however, she is not listed as a widow. The second is that she was taken in, rather than born into the family; however, there is a baptismal record for Charlotte Innes at St. Mary's. The third possibility is that, since she was marrying her second cousin, she was fudging her name. Whatever the truth that she is the person who appears in the 1871 Census (not known for its reliability) as Charlotte Emily Innes. [Bob H]
