    Notes
    • The Halifax County Birth Register entry for one of their children states that Josiah and Amelia were married in Gloucester, MA; however, their marriage is recorded at St. Luke's, Halifax. [Iris Shea]

NS fishermen are know to have frequently visited Gloucester, and vice versa, and to have carried passengers as well. Also, it was typical during this period for a marriage to be performed at someone's home and then recorded at one or more family churches. So it is clearly possible that they were married in Gloucester and the marriage was simply recorded at St. Luke's. Their marriage return slip, if it exists, will be checked. [Bob H]
